More portrait cuteposting/reviving forgotten character designs/sadposting, this time featuring an unnamed wolf guy I drew twice back in 2019 and never really did anything with.

I never really had any plans for him, but despite the simplicity and generic quality of his design, I did like him a bit. His appearance always made me think he'd be some sort of blue collar guy, but I also remember briefly considering having him be either a firefighter or maybe a construction or utility worker, careers that are definitely essential to any modern society but seem to be very rarely represented in art in general, much less furry art (unless fetishized, of course).

Also, when working on this portrait and a portrait of underutilized wolf scout/marksman Aileen Norris, I noticed the similarity in their coloration, which made me think a bit about having the two be related. A lot of my worldbuilding is sorta reverse-engineered like this, I'll design a character or have an idea, and later on make connections to other characters that in turn lead to further development of the characters and the world around them. It's about 50/50 whether any new character I design was designed with purpose (be that as a relative or friend to an existing character, to fill a specific role or position, or what have you), or just some one-off I did just because I had a random idea or needed to kill a few hours.

There's also a strange prevalence of cigarettes in my art, at least for certain characters, despite how bad a habit that actually is (and other implications, like just what that would do to their fur, or for that matter, how much more likely they'd be to set themselves on fire compared to creatures with bare skin like humans). It's definitely an aesthetic choice that hints at a degree of apathy or perhaps even passive suicidal ideation, but I did also grow up in the 1990s, the tail end of smoking being seen as "mature" or "cool" or "edgy" or "deviant", rather than just a self-destructive nuisance behavior.
If it sounds like I'm ranting and/or on a soapbox, I sorta am. Both my parents smoked, a lot of our stuff stunk because of it, the cars always stunk because of it, there were always ashes and cigarette butts everywhere because of it, and they both died in their early 50s because of it. Absolutely vile.
