Hey guy, you still streaming on Picarto? I don't think I've gotten a notice in a while -- since like November!

Thanks. Now you probably know why I loathe crosshatching - it is hard to bucket-color on 1-bitplane drawings.
-
I see fair enough, I just love actually doing it. Especially when I'm in a bad mood I can just really go for it on paper.
What is bucket-color on 1-bitplane drawings? I haven't heard someone use that before?
-
It's a bit of carry-over from the days (late 80's to early 90s) when pixel editing programs had a limited color set, usually between 16 to 32. I'd scan in art in strict black and white and color the carefully closed interiors with fills. Crosshatching is very unfriendly to that style of coloring since the color can't bleed into the boxes. Nowadays, you'd just place color on a layer and not nitpick as much, but I kinda like the absolutes you get that way.
-
I see that makes sense. I think cross hatching is shading on it's own though. So I never colour area's I have cross hatched. Sometimes I will do some parts in colour and some cross hatched to experiment. However for me I mainly use it for black and white works.
I also do everything traditionally, expect for some of the backgrounds. I am actually really clueless about digital art, which is probably why i didn't get what you meant.
-
This is -very- true. Black & White effects shading is often dulled by colors. I noticed that in my outlined weighted line stuff that adding color stole some of the punch, so I tend to use flat spans of desaturated, faded colors, which is in keeping with old newspaper coloration.
-
I see that is fair enough. Mind you I had an odd thing were I found adding my weighted lines gave my coloured work more punch and that is when I became much happier with my art style as a whole.
-
I recall when I finally figured out how to properly compose an image with various line weights, that was when I said to myself it was time to become a cartoonist. I chronicled that here.

Chances are pretty good this will be a semi-regular thing as (A) the ability to do streams seems to be pretty much a given now and (B) I enjoyed doing them. I didn't see any deterioration in my quality and only a mild impact on my speed. I'm imagining Thursdays and Sundays are going to be primary stream territories, but I might also target Thursdays and Saturdays depending. Thanks for coming for what little time you could!

Your work is fun and intelligent. I'll stay around as long as you don't confuse me with said 80's era otter. :-p

The schedule's been consistently late Thursdays and Sundays on http://www.gonechoo.com with me posting the previous comic here about the same time. I noticed you follow on tumblr, which is the fastest way to get the latest comic. I'm glad you're enjoying it!
